When I have a really good day (less anxiety), I like to reflect upon it to see what I did that day that might’ve made a difference.
Today was one of those days!
Some of my reflections - from AM to PM:
Started my blog yesterday! A wonderful sense of achievement - something I have been dreaming about for so long, and taking that first step was wondrous.
Slept well last night - I changed my duvet from a summer to a winter blanket, and it made a world of difference. Our space is quite warm, and this I find is not conducive to good sleep (best temperature for sleep is typically between 16-19°C). I also have been sticking my feet out (lol) which helps regulate my body temp.
Sunshine was back in Sydney today after a week of pretty heavy rain. Seeing and feeling the sun felt marvelous! #Science. I was in the office today, but spent as much time outdoors as possible, particularly in the morning. A few years back I learnt that morning sunlight, especially within the first 1-2 hours after waking, signals your brain to suppress melatonin (sleep hormone) and boost serotonin, improving sleep quality and daytime energy. Ideally 10-30 minutes and longer if it’s overcast. I prioritise this every day - having a puppy helps(!) and I definitely see more benefit the longer I stay out.
Met a friend and her baby this morning for a walk and coffee. It was a great way to start the day - connecting with a friend, sunshine, coffee, and baby cuddles. Since the miscarriage, I (more than ever) love being around babies which feels healthy and positive to me. An earlier start also meant less time on my phone this morning!
Being in the office. Overall, I find that my best week days tend to be when I’m in the office - more human connection and purpose, and thus my mind tends to be less vulnerable to ruminating and overthinking.
Husband is out for a fun dinner tonight, which I love for him! And it means that I get to go home and spend some time alone and with our puppy (Italian Greyhound). We’ll go for a walk and then cuddle up on the couch. I’ll then get into bed and read a book - having a book (I choose fiction at night) to look forward to is a game-changer for me - it gets me into bed early, limits my screen time, and helps me fall asleep.
That’s me for today!! Goodnight, world! See you tomorrow :)
