Motivation doesn't come to those who wait
JUST DO IT
Dear Diary (a la #Mental Pillar),
Got this message from my sister on Sunday night, and it got me thinking about motivation.
Just like I was always waiting for the “perfect” moment to start something, I was also always waiting to be motivated enough to start something. Turns out I would’ve been waiting a damn long time. I have found that the more I do something, the more motivated I become.
Take exercise as an example. When I’ve had time off, I struggle to feel motivated, so if I were waiting around for motivation, I might never exercise again. If I start exercising (sans motivation), I realise how much better I feel, I see my fitness improve and, because of it, I become more motivated. Motivation stems from habit / repetition.
And, apparently, the “it takes 21 days to build a habit” is a myth not supported by science. Apparently, on average, it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact - James Clear.
So, instead of waiting for the stars to align, get out into the universe and align them yo’self. You’ve got 66 days… GO!
Simply getting into the habit,
Salty
