Day 7… yay! One whole week!
Today, a bit on #Spirituality
It’s been raining like a mf here in Sydney, and you best believe that I’m making the most of it!
It’s so easy to complain about rain, but woweeeee I feel that there are so many benefits.
We took the dog for a walk this afternoon and had to make a dash home when the rain started to arrive. When I say ‘dash’, that’s not quite correct… Rain Parrot is basically my husband’s religion lol so we knew exactly how much time we had when we left for the walk. When we got home, this compelling urge to stand in the rain came over me, and I told my husband that I’d see him upstairs in a few minutes. I took my shoes off, and stood on the grass in the pouring, heavy rain for ten minutes. It was a beautifully cleansing exercise. I love me a bit of earthing / grounding, and doing it in the rain felt even more powerful. I came back feeling invigorated and ALIVE. I guess you can say that the hot shower post drenching helped too hehe!
Other rainy day faves:
The ecosystem gets a drink! We are currently living in an apartment whilst we renovate our house, and man I miss seeing the garden in the rain. That being said, we are still surrounded by so much greenery here, so I still get my fix.
The air, streets, buildings, cars, etc. get a good clean! I pointed out how clean / clear the night sky felt and looked a few weeks ago (after a rainy patch) and my husband taught me that it’s because rain cleans the air by removing contaminants from it! Not sure if I was defo meant to know this at my ripe old age of 33, but what matters most is that I know it now!
The smell of rain! Yum! This distinct smell produced when rain falls on dry soil is called petrichor, and I recently learned that not everyone can smell it.
On a spiritual level, and the reason we’re all here reading this post ;), the rain feels incredibly cleansing and healing. There have been several times in my time where the rain has come immediately after a significant life event. Two examples I can think of are: picking up my passport which was renewed under very challenging circumstances (a mostly humorous story) and feeling even more connected to my homeland - particularly my late grandma. The second and more recent one was the rain (and rainbow!) after we found out that we’d lost our bub. This felt like a fresh start and really gave me the hope and strength I needed to get through that first day. I also recently learned that your next baby after a loss is called a Rainbow Baby! How’s that for a SIGN?! IT’S A SIGN!
There is beauty in pretty much everything. I dare you to challenge me on that!
Simply happy (and dry),
Salty
I love the rain so much!! Less with a wild toddler but have to embrace it! I get so excited for a rainy day.
